Anyone can stroll the Vár Street promenade, but the Castle Quarter’s historical interiors—from crypt to chapel—are only accessible on guided castle walks. That’s by design: St. Michael’s Cathedral (Szent Mihály-székesegyház), the Lower Church, St. George’s Chapel (Szent György-kápolna), the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Gizella Chapel become more than stunning backdrops; they turn into unfolding stories experienced step by step.
How to Visit
The main entry point is the Veszprém Castle District (8200 Veszprém). Guided castle walks run in weekly blocks across July and early August: July 1–5, July 7–12, July 14–19, July 21–26, July 28–Aug 2, and Aug 4–9. Meeting points and details are provided with each tour; the promenade is open, but interior spaces admit visitors only with guides for conservation and crowd control reasons.

Guided tours dive into restoration details and centuries of sacred and civic life, opening doors usually closed to casual foot traffic. The idea is to slow down, listen, and let the district reveal itself—from medieval foundations to modern craftsmanship that brought the quarter back to life as a vibrant cultural space.
Interactive Evening Walk: Finding Answers in the Castle
On Tuesday, July 7 at 18:30, an unusual, subjective, and interactive walk takes over the quarter: “Válaszok a várban – életvezetési minták az idő sodrában” (Answers in the Castle – Life Patterns Through Time). Led by Ágota Kató-Bellavics and Csaba Kató—catechist, mental health specialist, deacon, and coach—the walk traces pathways of spirituality to spark reflection as much as historical insight. “Join us on a shared journey where the lives of saints and blesseds can offer new perspectives on our days. Let’s search together for the answers waiting among the stones of Veszprém Castle. We look forward to meeting you, Ágota and Csaba.”
Fridays at the Palace: A Thousand Years on Film
Every Friday at 17:00, the Archbishop’s Palace screens “1000 év öröksége – A veszprémi várnegyed megújítása” (1,000 Years of Heritage – Renewing the Veszprém Castle District), a documentary on the district’s transformation.
