Öttömös celebrates 30 years of asparagus on June 13, 2026, with an all‑day bash at Templom Square (Templom tér) to cap the harvest season. The first festival sprouted back in 1994, and the Southern Great Plain village has since become synonymous with asparagus, a crop that helps sustain local families. Star guests Feri Varga and Betty Balássy (Varga Feri és Balássy Betty) top the bill, with tastings, music, parades, and fireworks packing the program.
Morning Kickoff
Festivities begin at 11:00 in the main event tent with greetings from Mayor Dr. István Dobó and a ceremonial address by Margarida Rosa da Silva Izata, Angola’s ambassador. At 11:30 there will be honorary awards, followed at noon by cultural showcases featuring local kindergarteners, schoolchildren, and the Öttömös Zither Ensemble (Öttömösi Citerazenekar).
Parades, Performances, Tastings
At 15:00 the Arlecchino Dance and Sports Association (Arlechino) marches in with the Mórahalom Brass Band. From 15:00–18:00 the Cultural Center hosts tastings of asparagus specialties. A stilt act runs 15:30–16:00, then more showcases from 16:00 with the Csürdöngölő Folk Dance Group (Ruzsa), the Ruzsa Majorette Club, the Zákányszék Peasant Choir, the Bushido Dojo Self‑Defense Group (Öttömös), the Homokháti Látszótársak troupe (Mórahalom), Tamburica Szeged, Zita Szilágyi and Hanna Mihalec, plus the Happy Jumpers Rope Skipping Group (Pusztamérges).
Evening Highs
At 19:10 judges rate the asparagus dishes, a raffle draws winners, and the festival cake is sliced. A spark show fires up at 20:40. A street dance with the Tornyosi Zsiványok kicks off at 21:00, fireworks at 22:00, then headliners Feri Varga and Betty Balássy (Varga Feri és Balássy Betty) at 22:15, and more street dancing from 23:00.
