Ópusztaszer’s Csillagösvény Adventure Park (Csillagösvény Élménypark) is rolling out summer-long thrills with night-time maze roaming on the Szer plain. From June 1 to August 31, the park invites families, school groups, friend squads, and brave late-night wanderers to get gleefully lost, solve clever puzzles, and burn off energy across a sprawling, nature-forward playground. The entrance is at 6767 Ópusztaszer, Szoborkert Street (Szoborkert utca) 1, and the experience is built to entertain everyone from the littlest kids to active grandparents.

Europe’s largest hedge maze is the park’s calling card, and it’s not just about dead ends and turnarounds: themes of Hungarian history, geography, and wildlife are woven into the experience, so every wrong turn offers something to learn. The fence-panel labyrinth and puzzle stations add even more reasons to double back and explore again.

Hedge Maze and Nature Trail

The showstopper: a 3.7-acre hedge labyrinth grown from 35,000 privet plants. Today it stands about 79 inches tall and runs for 2.17 miles, delivering a 45–60 minute trek that mixes problem-solving with pure fun. Families, school groups, and even office teams can test their bearings, cooperation, and sense of humor before the final triumphant exit.

Attila’s Garden: The See-Through Maze

Attila’s Garden (Attila kertje) reimagines a conquest-era belt buckle discovered in Kunszentmárton as a transparent maze pattern. The buckle’s star-like motif is meant to guide you—if you can trust your instincts. The transparent walls are wonderfully deceptive, so expect a few playful fakes. Bonus: it’s fully accessible for strollers, so the smallest explorers can roll right in.

Three Elements Playground

After the maze, kids and grown-ups can go wild at a unique playground built around earth, water, and air. In the Sand Factory (Homokgyár), children haul sand up to a “mine” with their own strength, then send it sliding down chutes and along conveyor belts. There’s even a rail-mounted mining cart to shuttle sand to the right spot—adults may be hard to pry away from this mega-sandbox.

At the water stations, kids guide flows from a well through channels, power wheels, and discover the magic when water meets earth: glorious mud. Meanwhile, balance beams and chain elements challenge visitors to move through the air—great for kids, and humbling for parents who thought they had perfect balance.

Turul Nest Lookout

This one-of-a-kind lookout has netted flooring and sides, so it’s safe and thrilling for everyone who can climb—or still can. Go barefoot and scramble up; coming down, rolling is allowed. The top deck is strung 26 feet in the air, where you can stretch out and feel suspended, then climb through the levels to activate every muscle either as a warm-up before the maze or a cooldown afterward. Beside it sit three giant, in-ground trampolines to add vertical action to days spent walking horizontal labyrinth lines.

Folk Games, Local Craft

Next to Attila’s Garden, traditional, natural-material games crafted by local heritage keepers await. Shake off maze tension by using a wooden spoon to bop a “chicken” into a basket, then try horseshoe or stuffed-sock tossing. For conflict resolution, there’s the swamp walk: three players must synchronize every step to move forward. The snail race blends brain and hand power, and the rope maze is a must: think and move together to thread through without tangling. For a breather, try ninepins, the turul or badminton courts, and cube-turning lanes with giant versions of sudoku, memory, tic-tac-toe, and knight’s move puzzles.

The Big Yurt

Visible from the road to the Ópusztaszer National Historical Memorial Park (Ópusztaszeri Nemzeti Történeti Emlékpark), the 3,229-square-foot yurt (jurta) is built from wood and reed, modeled after the dry mill on the Bugac steppe. It’s primarily an event venue for weddings, team-building, and conferences, but it’s open to visitors during park hours. Duck in during rain or heat and explore its details.

Brain Games for All Ages

The logic zone is both playful and demanding, for ages 0–99. You’re the playing piece on colorful carpets, finding your way through mini mazes governed by unique rules on each: colors, numbers, arrows. These special six-minute labyrinths let your body rest after the big hedge, while your brain does the sprint. Finger mazes add tactile problem-solving—trace your way to the exit. Challenge friends and family to speed duels or brainstorm as a team in the eco-park’s two dedicated areas.

Number War Arena

Ever tried Number War (Számháború) with foreign guests? It turns out this Hungarian classic is unknown even to many neighbors. Here, a purpose-built, 21,528-square-foot battlefield with 142 evenly spaced bushes creates the perfect arena. Split into two teams of equal size, strap on forehead boards (with red/black number series or preschooler icons for the tiniest recruits), and let the fair fight begin. Fallen players can retreat to the buffet terrace to await the end and the victory call.

Night-Time Maze Sessions

The beloved autumn pumpkin-lantern night maze has inspired more frequent after-dark programs throughout summer. Darkness transforms the hedge into something entirely new—even for veterans who can escape with eyes closed by day. The maze is not lit at night, so bring your own glow: headlamp, flashlight, or phone light. True daredevils can rely on moonlight alone. Extended hours and nighttime dates drop on the park’s Facebook and Instagram—check a week ahead for details.

For food, Ópusztaszer’s csárda plates up hearty Hungarian soups, kettle-cooked stews, fish, beef, Hungarian Grey cattle, and mangalica dishes, plus baked specialties and vegetarian options—served in a cozy, family-friendly space with carved wooden furniture on the terrace. Next door to the National Historical Memorial Park, the revamped Szeri Inn (Szeri Csárda) drops guests into an authentic, period bandit-inn vibe, complete with historic artifacts. Currently, it welcomes pre-booked groups and sits just 200 meters from the park entrance.
