Budapest's Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School revives in 2026! Fun games, crafts & traditions for kids 3-14 every Sunday at Zsilip Center.
dónde: Budapest, 13. kerület, Újpesti rakpart 1.

Sunday kids’ programs are back at Zsilip in Budapest! The beloved Jewish Sunday school returns refreshed as Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School (Zsiliputi Zsidó Vasárnapi Iskola), set in the two-story, playhouse-packed Zsilip Center with tons of learning rooms. Hundreds of kids who spent Sunday mornings there for years still rave about the shared games and playful learning they experienced. Our young, enthusiastic team welcomes every kid and teen aged 4–14 (and even younger ones or those prepping for Bar/Bat Mitzvah) from 10:00 to 12:15 every Sunday. Split into age groups, we’ll prep for holidays together, dive into mitzvot, explore traditions, and soak up lifelong Jewish values. Whether you’re a little one, tween, or budding teen leader, this school’s made for you!

Age Groups and Activities

The school runs in age-based groups packed with excitement.
I. Group (4–6 year-olds) – Wave Group (“Hullám-csoport”): Every Sunday brings thrilling adventures in green themes with play, crafts, laughter, and storytelling. Jewish tales and heroes come alive as we discover, create, and build a real little community. Time: Sundays 10:00–12:15.
II. Group (7–9 year-olds): Expect creativity, Jewish stories, games, and great vibes. We’re pumped to meet you and dive into awesome adventures starting September—hoping for loads of smiling kids! Time: Sundays 10:00–12:15.
III. Group (10–11 year-olds) – Sea Group (Yam-csoport): Join a tight-knit crew for crafting, playing, laughing, and exploring! Jewish stories, hands-on projects, friendships, and fun galore await. Can’t wait to spend Sundays together! Time: Sundays 10:00–12:15.
IV. Group (12–13 year-olds) – Bar/Bat Mitzvah Club (Bármicva/Bátmicva Club, BMC): Kick off Sundays with positive energy, laughs, and good times for those stepping into adulthood. We’ll chat about Jewish values, traditions, your questions, plus games, crafts, group discussions, outings, creative challenges, and projects to become official community members. Time: Sundays 10:00–12:15.
V. Group (3–14 year-olds) – MKZ Group for future madrichim (“madrichok,” leaders): Weekly training to become top guides and teachers. We’ll learn about leading by example, kids’ needs, growth, and how to help them—in great spirits and Jewish style! Time: Sundays 10:00–12:15.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly with fun age-grouped activities like games, crafts, storytelling, and Jewish adventures perfect for my kids aged 4-14.
+
Short 2-hour Sunday sessions from 10-12:15 fit easily into our tourist schedule without eating up the whole day.
+
Easy to reach by Budapest's awesome public transport – just take the M3 blue metro line to Újpest-Köztársaság tér and walk 10-15 mins to the embankment.
+
No need for a car since parking in the 13th district might be a hassle anyway, and trains/buses are cheap and reliable.
+
Gives a unique cultural twist on familiar US Sunday schools or Hebrew classes, blending play with Jewish values in a cool Hungarian playhouse setting.
+
Welcoming to all kids, even non-Hungarian speakers potentially, with that enthusiastic team vibe for family bonding abroad.
+
Chance for teens to prep Bar/Bat Mitzvah or become leaders, adding real value beyond typical tourist kid stuff. - Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School isn't well-known internationally – it's a beloved local revival, not a global attraction like Disney or big museums.
Cons
Újpest embankment location flies under the radar for foreign visitors who stick to central Budapest hotspots like Parliament or the baths.
Hungarian language skills would help a ton since group names and likely chats are in Hungarian, not super English-friendly for tourists.
Only 14 specific dates in spring 2026, so timing your US family trip around it could be tricky compared to year-round events elsewhere.
