The Adventure Heritage program series is back for 2026 at the Ópusztaszer National Historical Heritage Park, turning the past into a hands-on, living experience. Set at 6767 Ópusztaszer, Szoborkert 68, the yearlong lineup refreshes monthly with new themes and activities, so even returning visitors find something new to discover. It’s built for families, curious day-trippers, and anyone who wants history within arm’s reach rather than behind glass.
What makes it special is the interactivity. You won’t just look at exhibitions—you’ll jump into them. Visitors can quiz in-park experts on the spot, test out traditional crafts, and try historical skills tied to everyday life. This direct, personal format opens a deeper window into the events and routines of earlier centuries. If you’re after a family-friendly cultural day that’s big on experience and light on stiffness, put this on your 2026 Hungary list.
Where and when
The program hub is the Ópusztaszer National Historical Heritage Park, centered around the Open-Air Museum (Skanzen), the Rotunda, the Nomad Park, the Herbal House and Garden, and the riding arena. Most events run from April through May with packed weekends and kid-ready offerings. Many activities take place outdoors and are weather-dependent, and the organizers reserve the right to make program changes.
Hands-on history highlights
The season lights up from early April with folk crafts and woodcarving demos at the Skanzen’s Községháza, inviting guests to watch, ask questions, and talk traditions. That same immersive approach powers the park’s crowd favorites in May: oven-baking sessions, workshops on windmills of the Southern Great Plain, and garden talks that show how a medicinal herb plot is run—tools and all.
Kids get their own world inside the Nomad Park’s snug yurt—think soft pouf seating, rag rugs, simple traditional games, and themed coloring sheets—while the Skanzen’s folk play yard lays out the kind of straightforward, clever games that entertain all ages. Meanwhile, the riding arena lets children and adults dive into horse culture with interactive sessions guided by specialists who know how to make a first contact with horses memorable and respectful.

Note that times and programs may change, and outdoor events depend on the weather.
Why it works
Because the park keeps the format fresh month by month, you can come back and still be surprised: one visit might lean into ovens and old recipes, another into windmills, horses, and medicinal plants. The balance feels right—plenty for kids to do without dumbing things down for adults. It’s history by doing, tasting, asking, and playing, which is exactly how it sticks.
