Élménybirtok in Bikal throws open its gates in 2026 for a full-on time warp to the Middle Ages. Inside the walled Old Town, families roam cobbled lanes lined with workshops, legends, reenactments, and big, lively shows. It’s hands-on, kid-ready, and cleverly built so adults don’t just watch — they join the adventure too. Address: 7346 Bikal, Rákóczi u. 22.
Laughs, Knights, Crafts: A Packed Spring–Summer
Comedy kicks off on May 27 with Apuzárási pánik – apa stand-up, where István Orlik (Luke) rips through the rollercoaster of becoming a dad. Joy, panic, pride, doubt — it’s messy and hilarious. While motherhood stories dominate culture, this flips the lens: How is a father a man? How is a man a father? Luke mines that role-switch with humor and a wink — and this time, he’s not singing.
Immersive Medieval Days for Classes and Families
On May 28 and 29, Élménybirtok runs Időutazás a középkorba — a discovery-first program day tuned for school trips and groups, but just as great for families. Wander the 18.5-acre estate, poke into every workshop, and play your way through history. From the Varázsfestő’s House, the Blacksmith’s, and the Witch’s House to a full Craft Village, you’ll see traditional techniques, browse finished wares, and try easy, hands-on crafts. Mesefalu hosts a bit of forging with the Blacksmith; the Page School (Apródképző) welcomes you for “Fabatka” crafts; while in the Old Town you can meet the caricaturist, leatherworker, silversmith, enamel and glass artists, bookbinder, honey seller, a Renaissance tailor, and even the woodcarver tucked into a bend of the street.
All day, the pet yard features storytelling with the Hungarian folk tale The Little Rooster’s Diamond Halfpenny (A kiskakas gyémánt félkrajcárja) and La Fontaine’s The Fox and the Crow. There’s a “Labyrinth” card-hunt game across the grounds, and a code-breaking quest, Secret Signs, Enigmatic Places (Titkos jelek, talányos helyek) — sign up at the Gingerbread Workshop. Lunch hours at the White Swan Inn (Fehér Hattyú): noon–3 pm. Shared highlights: Hansel and Gretel musical tale at 2 pm, then the show-stopper Knight Tournament at 3 pm — real combat, horses, and bravado. Open 10 am–5 pm both days.
Brainiacs, This One’s for You
On May 30, From the Stone Axe to the Helicopter (A kőbaltától a helikopterig) — a popular-science talk — shatters the “dark” in Dark Ages. Bold thinkers imagined lifts, automobiles, and diving suits centuries before the 20th century. How did they dream up deep-sea dives and flight when making a wheel was a headache? It’s a brisk tour where science and imagination walk side by side, perfect for kids, grown-ups, and anyone ready to be wowed by medieval light.
Children’s Day: Free Entry for Kids and VR Thrills
Also on May 30, from 10:30 am to 5 pm, Children’s Day at Élménybirtok (Gyereknap az Élménybirtokon) explodes with activity. Little kids enter free and get a “Fabatka” token as a gift; older kids get 2 Fabatkas worth 1,000 HUF (about 2.73 USD) to spend on experiences. The Mosolygyár Foundation and the B-Prepared Project bring immersive VR: sword-fighting, archery, even a rollercoaster rush via modern headsets, with staff on hand and three VR rigs to keep everything smooth and safe. B-Prepared’s VR Prepared module simulates emergency scenarios so kids can practice smart responses in a safe, eye-opening way.
The Kaposvár KÖTÉL Special Rescue Service rolls in with volunteer firefighters, gear, trucks, rescue dogs, and playful demos — pure hero energy with real-world lessons. Plus the estate’s classics: a thundering Knight Tournament, a falconry show, Ugi Mama’s magic music show for kids, and buzzing craft workshops across the Old Town.
Light, Shadow, and a Battle of Forces
On June 1 and June 8, The Lightmaker — Musical Light Magic (A Fényteremtő — zenés fénymágia) turns night into a canvas. Light techs use intelligent lamps and special soundscapes to spin a story of light versus darkness — one can’t exist without the other. The show suspends time and stretches imagination as far as it’ll go — a first-of-its-kind spectacle in Hungary.
Sancho Steps Into the Spotlight
June 6 brings The Squire — Another Don Quixote Story (A fegyverhordozó — egy másik Don Quijote történet), a witty, moving retelling from Sancho Panza’s side, performed by the powerhouse voice of István Orlik (Luke). He takes his complaints to Cervantes himself, railing at life as a “plump little guy on a donkey” overshadowed by a windmill-bashing hero. He drags in Sherlock and Watson, Frodo and Sam, Don Juan and Sganarelle to argue: sidekicks are the spine of every legend — and he’s done being a footnote.
Steel, Strategy, and Scars
On June 10, Weapons Demo with Knight Tamás (Fegyverbemutató Tamás lovaggal) dives into the weapons and wiles of medieval combat. Ever handled a flail? Thrown a javelin? Heard of a throwing cross or spike? Tamás, famed for cunning and craft, unpacks armor’s evolution, the rules of knightly duels, and what it really took to earn spurs. Ask well, and you might even touch the weapons. It’s part history, part show-and-tell, fully hands-on.
More Time-Travel Days Ahead
June 4, 5, 11, and 12 repeat the Időutazás a középkorba program-day format — crafts, games, pet yard tales, labyrinth hunt, code quest, Hansel and Gretel at 2 pm, Knight Tournament at 3 pm, with lunch at the White Swan Inn (Fehér Hattyú). Bad weather? Don’t flinch. Programs run in all conditions.
Plan Your Trip
You’ll find schedules, food and lodging tips, and extras onsite. The estate spans 18.5 acres, with exploration games, a medieval playground, go-karts, and even rodeo rides. Photos and videos on display make it easy to choose your day — but the best way is to step through the gates and let the Middle Ages grab you by the hand.
