June in Nagykőrös means möggy, the locals’ beloved sour cherry, and two packed days of free, family-friendly fun. On June 19–20, 2026, the city’s shaded Cifrakert Park (2750, Ceglédi Road 21) becomes a full-on celebration space, serving up cherry-laced food, concerts, crafts, and community programs from morning to late night. There’s a cooking competition, kids’ activities and workshops, a bustling craft street, and live music closing both evenings with a bang.
Why the möggy rules here
Nagykőrös has been proud of its sandy-soil-grown sour cherry for well over a century. The fruit’s big break came in 1885, when the famed Nagykőrös cherry swept all awards at the Budapest General Exhibition, securing national fame. Building on that heritage, the Kőrös Möggy Festival (Kőrösi Möggyfesztivál) launched in 2014 and has since become one of the city’s must-attend annual events every June, drawing locals and visitors from across the country.
Eat, sip, repeat: all things cherry
The star is, of course, the möggy. Expect a spectrum of cherry treats, from classic cherry jam and flaky cherry strudel to inventive cherry roasts and full-on mains. Drinks follow suit with cherry beer, cherry wine, and cherry brandy, while local restaurants roll out special cherry-forward menus just for the festival. Saturday morning turns up the heat with a multi-category cooking competition where creativity rules, as long as cherries lead the recipe. A seasoned jury of Hungarian gastronomy pros keeps standards high and the suspense higher.
Family playground in the park
Cifrakert transforms into a family experience zone. Kids get games and hands-on craft sessions, while all ages can enjoy talks, demos, and concerts. After sunset, live bands and DJs take over. The festival is free for everyone, with special care to include disadvantaged groups, seniors, families, and young people—because shared experiences taste best.
Crafts, heritage, and one-off finds
Down the artisans’ street, old trades spring back to life. Blacksmiths, woodcarvers, coopers, and furriers show their skills, and their wares are up for grabs. The market brims with Hungarian folk art and unique pieces—perfect for anyone hunting that just-right souvenir.
