May 7: Folk Tales and a Mother’s Day Concert
Kick off on May 7 with A bőgős fia és az ördögök (The Double Bassist’s Son and the Devils), a classic Hungarian folk tale performed by the Harlequin Puppet Theatre (Harlekin Bábszínház). Later that day, lower-grade students from the László Fekete Music School present a heartfelt Mother’s Day concert. Both programs take place in Tiszafüred and make perfect family outings.
May 8: Samurai Swords Unmasked
On May 8, explore a Japanese sword exhibition, guided tour, and talk by collector Attila Miklós Nagy (Nagy Attila Miklós). Stripping away myth with hard facts, the show reveals the real history of samurai weapons and the craft secrets behind them. Opening hours: 09:00–17:00, with group entries in hourly slots. May 11: Playhouse and Handcraft Heritage
Fűben-fában játék is a community playhouse using natural treasures for traditional children’s games. Free entry. Also on May 11, Tudásunkkal kézen fogva – A Szakkör exhibition opens: Matyó treasures, beadwork, and gingerbread. Opening by Natasa Kovács (community organizer student, University of Debrecen, Faculty of Humanities), with accordion by Vajk Manó Jakab from the László Fekete Music School. May 16–23: Creatures, History, and Family Fun
May 16 brings Csodák terráriuma, a small-animal showcase featuring pets, exotic spiders, and reptiles up close. On May 18, catch Embernek farkasa, Annamária Faragó’s film about the ÁVH prison in Jászberény—free entry. On May 23, Manóműhely, Adri’s family playhouse, invites everyone to craft: Tulipánból paprika, paprikából Jancsika—let’s play together! Entry: $3.28.
