Pécs is calling beer lovers for a behind-the-tanks peek at Hungary’s oldest continuously operating brewery. Every Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00, the Pécsi Sör Brewery (Pécsi Sörfőzde) opens its doors at 13 Tavasz Street for a guided tour through the full brewing journey, capped with a professional tasting of house beers. It’s a hands-on way to meet malt, hops, water, and yeast where the magic actually happens—then raise a glass in the showroom to taste the results.
How the tour flows
Guides from the brewery team lead visitors through each production stage, from the hot bustle of the brew kettles to the cool, calm world of fermentation. The walkthrough is designed to demystify beer-making without dumbing it down, so you’ll pick up real knowledge and practical tasting tips. The experience ends in the brewery’s showroom, where a beer expert takes over for a curated tasting of specialty beers brewed on site. Expect a friendly, informative session that ties flavor notes back to ingredients and process choices.
When, where, how
Tours run on Saturdays, 10:00–12:00, and start based on group size—so advance registration matters. The schedule currently includes the following dates: 2026.06.13., 2026.06.20., 2026.06.27., 2026.07.04., and 2026.07.11., all in Pécs.

Price and what’s included
The fee is 4,000 HUF per person (about 11 USD), and it includes the guided beer tasting at the end of the tour. No add-ons, no surprises—just a solid two hours of brew craft and clinking glasses.

Why Pécsi Sör matters
Pécsi Sör Brewery (Pécsi Sörfőzde) isn’t just any brewery—it’s a pillar of Hungarian beer heritage. As the country’s oldest brewery still in operation, it blends tradition with the practical day-to-day of modern brewing. That mix comes through on the tour: old-school craftsmanship meets contemporary processes, all grounded in the specifics of Pécs, a city with a long love affair with good drink and good company.
Make a weekend of it
If you’re traveling in for the tour, staying close to Pécs’s historic center makes everything easy. Accommodation options abound around the cathedral district and the villa quarter. Boutique stays like Adele Boutique Hotel Pécs set up shop in protected 19th-century buildings, balancing period charm with contemporary comfort in both rooms and apartments. Hotel Barbakán sits steps behind the Pécs Cathedral (Pécsi Székesegyház) with two-, three-, and four-bed rooms, plus a conference room and garage. For a quieter, green escape above the city, the Bagolyvár offers rooms decorated with Hungarian folk-art elements and suites styled after traditional wine press houses—along with dreamy views toward Zengő.
Guesthouses and apartment hotels near UNESCO-listed Early Christian sites put you within minutes of the museum street and the cathedral. Some places in the Mecsek hillside villa district promise the best of both worlds: peaceful forest paths within a five-minute walk and the city center only a few minutes farther. Group hikers even get free guided walks at certain inns, and the Büdöskúti key house between Remete Meadow (Remete-rét) and Orfű accommodates up to 12 on marked Blue Trail and Green Cross routes, about 800 meters off the main road.
Eat and drink around town
Fuel up before or after the brewery visit in the heart of Pécs. You’ll find a street food bistro and café in the Rose Garden (Rózsakert), the city’s prettiest downtown park, perfect for a sunny bite or coffee. Chocolate lovers can stock up on bonbons and home-style sweets at Angelic Temptation Chocolate Shop (Angyali Kísértés Csokoládé bolt). Traditional Hungarian kitchens deliver reliable quality, fair prices, and rotating daily menus, with speedy lunch service that still feels like a proper meal. Breakfasts start at 8:00 with foamy coffee, sandwiches, house pogácsa, and hand-stretched strudels. Many spots handle standing receptions and small events, in-house or off-site.
Modern bistro energy meets the “gateway to the Balkans” vibe at casual eateries focused on fresh, homestyle dishes done right at friendly prices. Big appetites meet their match at cozy taverns serving everything from fried, grilled, and stuffed meats to brassói, fish plates, oven-baked specials, risottos, and a galaxy of pastas, flatbreads, and pizzas—plus plenty of salads, soups, and desserts. For wine-minded diners, Golden Duck Restaurant (Aranykacsa Étterem) runs tastings in its Vinarium, with everyday drinking in the Tüke room, family or protocol meals in the Zsolnay room, and weddings, banquets, or birthday parties upstairs in the Dakk hall and garden.
