Esztergom’s Danube Museum (Duna Múzeum) is filling 2026 with seasonal exhibitions, openings, and finales at the European Center Gallery, with the headline show built around nature photographer Tamás Aranyossy. The venue is at 2500 Esztergom, Kölcsey Street 2, and the museum is pairing art with a full slate of city events that stretch into summer and beyond. Expect images, dates, and plenty of ways to plug in: from lodging to food and drink suggestions, the program lines up culture with easy escapes along the Danube Bend.
Opening Night: May 15, 6 p.m.
The main event kicks off on May 15 at 6 p.m., when Aranyossy’s Harmony in the Wild opens at the European Center Gallery. Guests are invited to join the artist in Esztergom for a first look at a collection shaped by time in the field in Africa and Costa Rica. Aranyossy frames the show as a deliberate break from the rush: stepping out of a world that runs on deadlines to feel the beauty and peace of nature that often lies just a few yards away. That pause, he says, slows time, changes people for the better, and turns the act of capturing light and moments into a way of living, not just recording.
Inside the Photography
Aranyossy writes about spending days and weeks among animals in some of the wildest places on Earth, surrendering to nature, watching, and taking in the fragile wonder around us. For him, nothing fits this delicate theme better than the rainforests of Africa and Central America. The exhibition draws from many trips to these beloved destinations, selecting photographs made across African regions and in Costa Rica. Africa’s rawness and beauty run through the work, while Costa Rica’s rainforests and their countless rare birds cast their own spell. He wants visitors to feel an intimate closeness to the natural world: the play of light, the richness and sometimes starkness of color, animal behavior, and the pure harmony in the wild that ties it all together.
Exhibition Run: May 16–June 14
After opening night, Harmony in the Wild remains on view from May 16 through June 14 at the Danube Museum’s (Duna Múzeum) European Center Gallery. It’s a month-long window to slow down, breathe, and let images of forests, feathers, and fierce landscapes reset your internal clock.
May in Motion
Esztergom doubles down on Danube life. River cruises and city sightseeing boats glide through the Danube Bend May 15–17, May 22–24, and May 29–31. The museum also heads to Budapest for Museum May Day, May 16–17. Back in Esztergom, the exhibition stays open May 16–June 14, with the river just a short walk away for sunset decks and drifting reflections.
Summer Highlights
June 5–7 and June 12–14 bring more Danube cruises, and there’s an Antiques Fair on June 14 to round out the exhibition’s final day. Water-Smart Camp at the Danube Museum (Duna Múzeum) runs June 29–July 3, with one session already fully booked and another still available. July features an Antiques Fair on the 12th, leading into MCC Feszt July 30–August 1. August adds another Antiques Fair on the 9th, free museum admission on the national holiday, August 20, and the Kaleidoscope Hill Festival August 27–30.
Into Autumn and Winter
September 13 brings an Antiques Fair; September 18 features organist Gergely Rákász with Mozart. October opens with TV host and reporter Tvrtko presenting Chernobyl 40 on October 5, then another Antiques Fair on October 11, and free museum entry on October 23. November 8 hosts another Antiques Fair, and December 13 closes the year with one more.
