On June 13 at 17:00, the season-closing Jazz Ballet Gala lands in the main hall of the Balaton Theatre. Students from the Goldmark Károly Cultural Centre’s jazz ballet groups showcase a year’s worth of choreography in a feel-good celebration of dance and music. Admission is free, and families are expressly welcome.
Boat excursions from Keszthely run repeatedly: June 13–14, June 19–21, June 22–28, June 29–July 5, July 6–12, and July 13–19. Old Keszthely in New Colors – 1900–1950 transforms monochrome into living memory, free to visit June 5–30 in the Balaton Theatre’s Simándy Hall, with an outdoor selection along the Sétálóutca (Pedestrian Street). Vintage photos are reimagined using AI colorization. Opening remarks feature Bálint Osvald, director of the Goldmark Károly Cultural Centre, and the exhibition is opened by writer, poet, translator, and literary historian Géza Cséby. The launch is followed by city-history talks: historian Ferenc Tar on notable Keszthely figures of the 1920s–30s; Dr. Géza Cséby on three Keszthely pharmacies; and Tar again on Keszthely’s development under Judge Imre Reischl.
St. John’s Night: Folk, Fire, and Free Fun
St. John’s Days light up the lakeside June 19–20 at the Music Pavilion on the shore of Lake Balaton. Before the dancing, the Moon and Sun creative playhouse pops up June 19, 18:00–20:00, on the grassy area behind the pavilion, led by Adél Tóth—free and family-friendly.
June 19 brings Adél Tóth’s playhouse at 18:00, followed by the Gyenes Folk Dance Ensemble and the Georgikon Folk Dance Ensemble at 19:30, the Uljana Quartet at 20:30 with soulful, tradition-rooted Hungarian folk reframed by world music elements, then a communal Re-Folk Dance House at 22:00. On June 20 at 19:00, folk music and dance ensembles from Lithuania, Turkey, Czechia, Poland, and Latvia take the stage.
Jazz Club Nights and Fish Stew Feasts
The JAZZ-a-vége club series launches June 25 at 19:00 in the Balaton Theatre with the Áron Tálas Trio. Tickets are $10.90. Junior Prima, Gramofon, and Artisjus award-winner Áron Tálas—frequently voted pianist of the year and a Liszt Academy educator who has worked with Lionel Loueke and Jorge Rossy—leads a trio blending jazz complexity with folk, classical, and modern grooves. Expect material from Little Beggar (2016, Hungarian jazz album of the year) and New Questions, Old Answers (2024, internationally lauded). Line-up: Áron Tálas (piano), István Tóth (double bass), László Csízi (drums).
The 3rd Halászlé & Catfish Festival takes over the promenade by the Keszthely pier June 26–28. Think Balaton panoramas, summer tunes, hearty fish dishes, and an easygoing community feel—ideal for families, friends, or an after-dusk stroll.
Kid Camps: Dance, Clay, Tales, and Art
Summer Break – Dance Camp runs June 22–26, 9:00–12:00 at the GKMK Great Hall for ages 5–10, led by Zsuzsanna Dézsenyi, $51.80. Max 15 kids, min 10 to launch. Summer Break – Pottery Camp 1 runs June 29–July 3, 9:00–12:00 at the Pottery Workshop, Lehel St. 2, led by Edit Simon for ages 8+, $51.80 plus $0.01 materials. Five days, five techniques: wheel throwing, coil building, small sculpture, slab-built forms, fresh methods, and decoration.
Summer Break – Folk Tale Camp runs June 29–July 3 at the GKMK Folk Tale Point. Half-day (9:00–12:00) is $51.80 plus $8.70 materials; full-day (9:00–16:00) is $95.40 plus $8.70 materials and a $3.60 lunch option (diet-specific lunches optional). Ages 6–12, led by Adél Tóth. Then Summer Break – Wheel-Throwing Camp runs July 6–10, 9:00–12:00 at the same Pottery Workshop, ages 10+, $51.80 plus $0.01 materials, with plenty of practice rooted in Hungarian folk forms, guided by Edit Simon.
July 13–17 splits into two: Summer Break – Craft Workshop at the GKMK Small Club, ages 6–14, led by Klára Gosztonyi, $51.80 plus $13 materials, with tote decoration, bead and stone bracelets, decoupage, and DIY board games; and Summer Break – Drawing Camp in the Balaton Theatre’s Básti Room, led by art teacher Tihamér Egyed, $51.80, with landscape, still life, and portraits across indoor and outdoor spots. KeszthelyFest: Three Nights, Many Stages
KeszthelyFest sweeps downtown July 3–5 with free shows, family programs, food, and a sunlit festival mood. Highlights include:

Stage Classic With Modern Pulse
Wrap up mid-July with A Pál utcai fiúk (The Paul Street Boys), the Pannon Castle Theatre’s musical play on July 14 at 19:00 in the Balaton Theatre’s main hall, tickets $27.20. Ferenc Molnár’s timeless story of bravery, betrayal, frailty, and love of homeland plays out with tougher dramatic edges and contemporary music and lyrics, driven by acoustic soundscapes and the cast’s rhythmic creativity.
