City Day Exhibition: Old Keszthely in New Colors
The exhibition Old Keszthely in New Colors – 1900–1950 runs June 5–30 at the Balaton Theatre’s Simándy Hall, with a free outdoor selection on the Sétálóutca. Old photographs have been reimagined with AI colorization to bring the past vividly to life. Opening speeches were given by Bálint Osvald, head of the Károly Goldmark Cultural Centre, and the show was opened by writer, poet, translator, and literary historian Géza Cséby. City-history talks follow the opening: historian Ferenc Tar on notable Keszthely residents of the 1920s–30s; Dr. Géza Cséby on the town’s three pharmacies; and Tar again on Keszthely’s development under town judge Imre Reischl.
On the Water and Into the Wild
Between June 15–18, and regularly through July, harbor cruises and boat trips depart from Keszthely, from classic sightseeing to party sailings later in July. From June 16–21 and June 23–28, plus June 30–July 5 and July 7–12, guided excursions with the Small Balaton (Kis-Balaton) Visitor Centre head to Diás Island’s István Fekete Memorial and the Matula Hut by car, golf cart, or by water by canoe.
Street Adventure Game
A family-friendly, outdoor, self-guided city sightseeing game runs June 15–21, June 22–28, June 29–July 5, and July 13–19, turning Keszthely’s landmarks into a lively puzzle hunt packed with challenges.
Midsummer on the Lakefront
On June 19, 6–8 pm, the Moon and Sun creative playhouse pops up on the grass behind the Music Pavilion at Keszthely’s Lake Balaton lakeshore, led by Adél Tóth. It’s free and welcomes all ages. The Midsummer Days events continue June 19–20 at the lakeside Music Pavilion (Zenepavilon), also free. June 19 features the Adél Tóth playhouse, then a heritage folk dance performance by the Gyenes Folk Dance Ensemble (Gyenes Néptáncegyüttes) and the Georgikon Folk Dance Ensemble (Georgikon Néptáncegyüttes), the Uljana Quartet blending Hungarian folk with world music, and a late Re-Folk dancehouse open to everyone. June 20 brings folk music and dance ensembles from Lithuania, Türkiye, Czechia, Poland, and Latvia.
Jazz, Boats, and a Fish Feast
June 25 at 7 pm, the Jazz-a-vége club series kicks off at the Balaton Theatre with the Áron Tálas Trio. Tickets are $10.90. Áron Tálas, a Junior Prima, Gramofon, and Artisjus award-winner and Liszt Academy lecturer who has worked with Lionel Loueke and Jorge Rossy, leads a trio fusing jazz complexity with folk, classical, and modern grooves. Expect material from Little Beggar (2016, Hungarian jazz album of the year) and New Questions, Old Answers (2024 award-winning), with Áron Tálas on piano, István Tóth on double bass, and László Csízi on drums.
From June 26–28, the 3rd Fish Soup & Catfish Festival lines the promenade by the Keszthely pier: lakeside views, summer tunes, and hearty food for families, friends, and evening strollers.
Summer Camps for Kids
June 22–26, 9 am–noon, the Summer Break Dance Camp runs in the GKMK Grand Hall for ages 5–10, led by Zsuzsanna Dézsenyi. Max 15 participants; fee $51.80. June 29–July 3, 9 am–noon, the Summer Break Pottery Camp 1 at the Ceramics Workshop (Lehel St. 2) covers five techniques from wheel-throwing to small sculpture, led by Edit Simon; fee $51.80 plus $0.01 materials. July 3–5, Keszthely’s city center fills with live music, family activities, food stands, and easy-going street vibes — all free. Stages spread across Main Square (Fő tér), the Amazon House Visitor Centre, the Pethő Courtyard (OTP Stage), and the Sétálóutca acoustic setup.

Stage Spotlight: The Paul Street Boys (A Pál utcai fiúk)
July 14 at 7 pm, Pannon Várszínház brings The Paul Street Boys (A Pál utcai fiúk) to the Balaton Theatre. Tickets are $27.30. Ferenc Molnár’s classic returns as a clash of young men rather than children, sharpening drama and energy with contemporary music and lyrics. The production leans on live acoustic effects, rhythmic creativity, youthful power, humor, and the original’s cathartic message. The large rotating cast includes Dávid Szelle (Boka), Tamás Havasi/Oliviér Rákos/Árpád Csaba Szente (Nemecsek), and many more under stage designer-director László Vándorfi, costume designer Júlia Justin, and production lead Dávid Szelle.
