dónde: 3300 Eger

Eger’s 2026 season rolls from June into July with a packed calendar across multiple venues, blending concerts, theater, film, exhibitions, family days, and the city’s signature wine culture. From intimate courtyard performances to open-air symphonies and a classic car rally, every taste gets a turn in the spotlight.

Opening Nights and Summer Theater

July 3 delivers an easygoing curtain-raiser with Stage Off—a summer evening meet-up with the Gárdonyi Géza Theater company: songs, poems, chats, fine wines, new faces, and a peek into the upcoming season. The same night, Hamajdleszék opens the second Hamajdlesz Fest with a free musical-literary evening introducing the Hamajdlesz team, a once-nomadic troupe founded in 2022 by young actors. Expect favorite songs and poems, and stories about who they are and what they’re building together.
Also on July 3: Made in Hungária, the hit musical about the Fenyő family boomeranging from early-60s America back to Budapest’s Angyalföld. The show runs about 150 minutes with an intermission, recommended from age 12.

City Beats and Indie Nights

Dobó Square (Dobó tér) turns into “drummers’ square” for Egy ütős nap, when a mass of percussionists launches the biggest rock anthems at 7 p.m. That evening, Blacksoup brings presszó-punk to Guri Serház. Across July 3–5, the Basilica hosts 20–30 minute organ recitals on Fridays and Saturdays at 12:00 and Sundays at 12:45, with works by J.S. Bach, Franck, Boëllmann, Dubois, and Vierne. Tickets cost about 5.50 USD per person, on sale at the Basilica Visitor Center.

Hamajdlesz Fest: Ten Days, Twenty Programs

Running July 3–12, Hamajdlesz Fest packs 10 days with 20 diverse programs: the troupe’s own productions alongside rising talents with Eger roots. July 4 brings Re:Generáció, a high-school band from the Ágnes Nemes Nagy arts school, spanning alt, classic rock, punk, and more; the pop-rock 4S Street; and the passionate, goosebump-guaranteed Geri Dánielfy. Ferenc Molnár’s Liliom digs into whether real love can change a person and if pure love can triumph when pride and shame block true feelings.
Explore Eger with a 90-minute walking tour of the historic center on July 4. Night owls can hit a Lotfi Begi after-party under the stars. Also that day: Kowalsky and Vega (Kowalsky meg a Vega) at Agria Park’s ornamental garden (doors 19:00, show 20:30), an acoustic evening at BorZbár, the irresistible energy of Parno Graszt, and the László Lajtha Folk Dance Ensemble’s 50th jubilee gala in the Valley of the Beautiful Woman (Szépasszony-völgy) at the Márai Center. July 4–5 turns into Hamajdlesz Children’s Day (Hamajdlesz Gyereknap), a kids’ paradise of games, workshops, and theater for families.

Sunday Sounds and Conversations

On July 5, FolKiss and Hamajdlesz team up for Folk Songs Here and Beyond at the Civil Community House, and a talk called Beyond the Stage with theater director József Szarvas and artistic head Sebestyén László Szabó, moderated by Judit Vass, on why theater still matters. The Eger Symphony Orchestra plays a Strauss open-air concert, while the trio Hármas Hangzat glides through bossa nova, folk, and pop in Hungarian, English, and Portuguese.

Exhibitions, Cinema, and Wine

Ernő Nagy’s memorial exhibition Fading Reality (Derengő valóság) runs June 30–July 5 at the István Dobó Castle Museum’s Sándor Ziffer Gallery and returns July 7–12. The Agria Park multiplex screens the latest premieres with a full snack bar June 29–July 5. Wine lovers can taste 29 styles from 34 wineries across 52 curated tastings through July 5, then again July 6–12—Eger’s best cellars are open. Dobó28 revives as a contemporary art space July 6–12 with Erzsébet F. Balogh’s exhibition and open studio, and The Sacredness of Life traveling show in the Basilica honors Saint Gianna Beretta Molla (1922–1962), patron of mothers, doctors, and the unborn, July 6–12.

Folk Tales, Films, and Fresh Drama

July 6 features the folk tale play The Foal’s Egg of Rátót (Rátóti csikótojás) for kids 6+ and families; KIKSZ and EKKE’s Meek Creature (Jámbor teremtés) at the Civil Community House; a garden cinema screening of Pulp Fiction; and How Easy the World Is (Milyen könnyű a világ), a stark love story about two young people searching for rescue until words and deeds lose meaning. July 6–8 marks the 16th György Szepesi Bar Musicians Festival—three nights of quality live lounge sounds honoring Hungary’s light-music heritage.
On July 7, The Foal’s Egg of Rátót returns, followed by My Totócska (Totócskáim), Hamajdlesz’s two-act take on István Örkény’s tragicomedy The Toth Family (Tóték). July 8 brings Lúdas Matyi (Mattie the Goose-boy) for families; the musical-literary evening Geng a gangon under the stars; A Portuguese Thing… (Portugál dolog…), a bittersweet one-act interpretation of Zoltán Egressy’s Portugal (Portugál); and an alt-leaning CC116 concert, free within the festival.

Wine Fest, Vintage Wheels, Big-Stage Acts

Thursday, July 9 kicks off a busy stretch: Aposztréfa, Kóda Unplugged, and Trampúr appear under the Egri Csillag Stage (Egri Csillag Színpad) banner, part of The Eger Wine Celebration’s 30th edition, promising excellent wines, the city’s tastiest bites, leafy ambiance, and carefree reunions in Archbishop’s Garden (Érsekkert). The Szak(ma)rket brings a producer and artisan market 08:00–13:00, with Heves County flavors and makers. Punnany Massif lights up the main stage that night with their live-band hip-pop blend of funk-rock, folk, and electronica, while The Drunks (Részegek) (16+) probes Europe’s value drift through painfully honest, drunken confessions.
July 9–11, the Egri Csillag Stage continues, and the 11th Rolling the Past vintage vehicle show takes over the picturesque Lajos Szmrecsányi Garden (Érsekkert), perfectly synced with the wine festivities. Celebrate summer at The Eger Wine Celebration from July 9–11—taste, toast, and relax in the city’s green heart.

Final Bars and Curtain Calls

On July 10, Liana and Hiperkarma headline at the Egri Csillag Stage, while Hamajdlesz stages Ferenc Molnár’s sparkling comedy The Play at the Castle (Játék a kastélyban)—where backstage tricks and one perfect story can save everything. Families can catch Mattie the Goose-boy (Lúdas Matyi) again, and Józsi Hegedűs closes the night with a solo set. Eger’s summer rhythm keeps rolling—pick your lane and dive in.
