The 27-acre Veresegyház Bear Sanctuary (Veresegyházi Medveotthon), Central Europe’s only bear sanctuary, is rolling out a summer of family-friendly thrills from June 29 to July 5, 2026, at 2112 Patak St. 39. The headliner is a characterful mini railway hauled by museum-style mining locomotives. Departing from behind the bear enclosure and the lookout point, it loops through the forest on a roughly 4,921-foot circuit, slipping through a mining tunnel and past photo-ready sights. It’s playful, but it’s also a front-row seat to nature: visitors get intimate views of the bears’ daily rhythms while rolling through the woods. Perfect for family outings, friend groups, and anyone who lives for fresh air and fur.
How the ride unfolds
Board just beyond the bear habitat and the viewing tower, then settle in as the train hums into the trees. The circuit is about 1,500 meters, with a tunnel section that ups the adventure factor for kids and grown-ups alike. Expect a slow, scenic pace and plenty of chances to watch the residents do their thing—sniffing, splashing, foraging—without crowding them. It’s as educational as it is charming.
2026 running times
– Outside summer break, through late November: weekends, 10:00–16:00. No service in bad weather.
– During summer break, weekdays: 11:00–16:00.
– During summer break, weekends: 10:30–17:00.
– From November to March: no service, including weekends.
Group charters
– Weekdays require advance booking for groups on the Museum Railway.
– Private trains are available for groups of at least 10 and can run outside the regular timetable. Send your preferred date and group size to request.
– Requests aren’t binding agreements—no obligations for either party until confirmed.
